So extremely sad that his known family did not attend or handle his burial. Of course I’m sure there is a story behind it but truly this is so very heart breaking. It doesn’t say where in Oregon he was born and raised but it wouldn’t be hard to find out with the information they did include in the article.
The county can get a military marker for him if they will apply to the V.A. Perhaps the veterans’ group would do that. He deserves a marker.
I thought perhaps no one back there knows how to contact his estranged family members. They still might want to know? Wish it said more specifically what part of Oregon he was from
it says he was estranged from his daughters et al. That generally indicates a choice by both parties to end contact. Pretty sad. The va likely knows how and did contact them. I notice they had a list of all his kids, step kids, and step grand kids. Sad. But still looks like a choice
