The boy you know will always be there. You just have to get through the phases where he needs (important!) to separate from you. For the first time in years my HS senior hugs me before going to school in the morning. He has no idea how much I treasure that moment every day. My fear is losing my boy. He’s 16 and I kept him close to me much longer than I expected but those drivers license make a difference. Haha!! I miss him even though I see him every day. When he leaves for college, I will be proud but heartbroken. When he gets married, I will be overjoyed for his happiness but heartbroken. Something about those boys

You can write from very different perspectives, this is one of my favorites. It gets deep into the heart of what every parent of an 11 year old is living. Thanks for sharing real life with us one thing struck me (maybe it my experience with Montessori education) that this happened when you asked him to participate in an important job…something more adult with responsibility and showing trust from the adult in his capabilities…In a way you made him your peer in that moment.
