During this chaotic time, Frida Kahlo painted A Few Small Nips painting depicting a woman murdered in a naked pose. It is based on a murder in 1935 in which the culprit, in a drunkenness, killed his girlfriend in bed with 20 stabs. However, when asked, the killer casually said, “I just gave her a few small stab wounds”.
When painting, Frida often uses personal experiences, including marriage, miscarriages, and countless surgeries as the subject. Kahlo’s works are often characterized by details related to dissection, pain, endurance (but a calm face). “I never draw dreams,” says Kahlo. I draw my own reality… ”. She herself has summarized her personality and talents as follows: “I was born a prodigy. I was born as an artist ”.
