Sphynx cat was discovered by accident in the 1960s and 70s. It all started from a mutated hairless kitten in Canada named Prune. Its owner then tried to propagate this recessive gene that created a very rare, hairless trait you see today.
The Sphynx was originally called a Canadian hairless cat according to the International Cat Association but breeders later called them Sphynx in a similar appearance to the giant Great Sphinx of Giza sculptures in Egypt. . Soon after, the Sphynx hairless cat was recognized by the American Cat Lovers and the cat Mr. Ted NudeGent’s Bigglesworth in the Austin Powers comedy is the most known Sphynx cat in the world up to now.
