Am a seasoned armchair traveler! Highly recommend Only in America where you can pick any state, get emails that show beautiful, interesting, and unusual places in this country! PBS does great shows, too. I have only been to Hydra once, but I hope to return some day. Do they still have the garbage truck as the only vehicle?
Oh yes, beautiful, beautiful GREECE! My island is Gregliomani…. across the Mediterranean on a small yacht from a bus outta Athens airport. A motorcycle ride to St. Charles or St. John and dinner. A viewing of the great Parthenon and peaceful day trip up up up to the Monestery!!!! Awesome! My Momma Mia Vacay!!! Hydra was my favorite adventure during my RS tour of Greece. We were there at the very end of season and the small hotel had only one more weekend before closing. The magic was enhanced because there were no huge gangs of tourists everywhere. The cats waited patiently each morning for the fishermen to return and curled up on the seats of outdoor cafes at night. That place still calls to me, despite having traveled to many destinations since.
