A strict egalitarian who thinks equality is instrumental already accepts different values, so they can argue that in these cases equality isn’t instrumental in bringing in regards to the desired consequences. An obvious form of anti-egalitarianism rejects the descriptive thesis. If persons aren’t equal, then there is no moral imperative to pursue substantive distributive justice.
