Stories from the battlefield can be told in a variety of ways. Writers can be inspired by newspapers, documentaries or interact with American veterans. In particular, there are a number of US veterans who have become writers and directly bring their memories on the page. Tim O’Brien is one of them.
He directly fought in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970. That period was not long, but the horrifying memories of battle and death still haunted him. In 1973, Tim O’Brien released the memoir If I Die in a Combat Zone about the years serving in the military.
